Munchee FAQs

  • Why is chewing so important and why would I need a Myo Munchee?

Chewing enhances the strength of jaw and mouth muscles to assist in optimal oral health and function. Just like any part of the body, the jaw and facial muscles need the right kind of exercise/movement to stay healthy. That’s where the Munchee comes in…

With just 10 minutes of daily chewing exercise, children and adults can improve the tone and function of muscles of the lips, face and jaws. The Munchee also encourages lip closure, correct swallow pattern and promotes nasal breathing.

In the last hundred years, the western industrialised lifestyle—with its soft foods, reduced nutritional diversity, and rapidly decreasing range of exercise— has essentially removed natural cues for healthy oral development. The modern individual will benefit from more chewing and eating less processed foods, for more than the obvious health/weight/holistic reasons. Commitment + consistency is key!

  • What is occlusion/malocclusion and how can the Myo Munchee assist with good occlusion?

  • Can you please advise if a Myo Munchee is helpful in correcting an underbite? My child’s bottom jaw extends further than the top.

In cases where you are exploring options to correct a malocclusion, we suggest that you seek professional orthodontic advice. The Munchee is a tool to assist with myofunctional needs, it is not designed as a stand-alone treatment but part of an arsenal that can assist you with correct oral rest posture, swallow pattern, tongue positioning and nasal breathing.

Tongue-tie, pacifier/dummy use, and mouth breathing are 3 of the most common causes of this type of malocclusion. Be aware that this type of malocclusion is one that can cause damage to a Munchee due to the imbalance of forces through the jaw. Children should be under the care of a dentist from age 4+ years for optimal oral development. Begin with using the Munchee passively ensuring that lips are together at all times and build up to chewing very, very gently.

  • Is there any research on the Munchee?

  • Is the Myo Munchee covered by a warranty?

Yes! At Munchee we are our proud of our product.

Each Myo Munchee is made using medical grade silicone, providing comfort and flexibility coupled with strength and durability.

We cannot guarantee exactly how long the Myo Munchee will last for each customer since no two humans are exactly the same. Bites and occlusions vary greatly and there are certain bites that will be more likely to damage the device.

In children’s cases we find that as the bite improves the Myo Munchee will last longer.

We will happily replace any device that proves faulty within six months of purchase. We stand by our product and need to be aware if there is any issue with quality. If you have any problems with quality and wear, please lodge a warranty claim and send us a photo of both your Myo Munchee and ideally of your bite (teeth closed and showing).

PLEASE NOTE: this replacement policy cannot be used to replace a Myo Munchee a second time. Some bite structures and forces will always damage the Myo Munchee over time.
